The intention of this walk was to follow the Weardale Way from Bishop Auckland to Escomb. This is a relatively short walk of about 4 miles (return).
However, on this occasion the Weardale Way footpath was in a very slippery and muddy state, and we judged it hazardous to continue.
In dry weather this may not be such a problem, though we were subsequently advised by a local resident that a footbridge had been washed away and that the footpath was in a poor condition.

Having decided not to continue with the walk, we returned to Bishop Auckland where the town itself has several attractions worth viisiting.
