Explorer Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western Area)

This walk uses farm tracks and farm footpaths, together with some road walking.
The footpaths were all well maintained, with small metal "pedestrian gates" at boundaries. There were no stiles to cross.
The walk went from Hutton Rudby to Middleton-on-Leven via Low Foxton Farm.
At Middleton-on-Leven the walk went as far as the point where the bridleway crosses a stream. However, at this point the bridge had been washed away by earlier bad weather, and the walk returned to Middleton-on-Leven,
Should the footbridge be available, the walk could continue to Hilton.

Start from a small parking area opposite Hutton Rudby's parish church (NZ47134 06664). If this parking area is in use due to a church service, you may find it convenient to park in the village itself.
Take the lane that heads West from here, beside the River Leven, until you come to a sewage works. At the gates of the sewage works, the footpath can be found on the left and continues beside the River Leven.
Follow the footpath up a hill through Blue Bank Wood to Blue Bank Lane.
When you reach the lane, turn left and follow a rough track Westwards to where the bridleway heads Northwards to the lane leading to Foxton.
A bridleway leaves this lane at the point where the lane heads towards Foxton Cottages.
Follow the bridleway to Low Foxton Farm.
At the farm entrance turn right and follow the footpath to where it meets a minor road.
Crossing the road there is a stile which leads to a footpath that takes you to Middleton-on-Leven.
However, as the stile was in poor condition the road to Middleton-on-Leven was followed instead.
In the village a lane heading North is marked by a finger post.
Follow this lane until you come to a stream.
If there is a footbridge over the stream, continue to Hilton village.
However, as the bridge had been washed away, the walk described here returned to Middleton-on-Leven,
The road was then followed to Middleton Grange Farm.
Just before the farm a bridleway was followed to Foxton.
At Foxton, the road was followed to High Foxton Farm.
FRom there, a footpath was taken to Blue Barn Lane, Hutton Rudby, and a return to Hutton Rudby itself was made via Bank Lane.
