Outdoor Leisure Map OL26, - North York Moors (Western Area)

This circular walk starts from the Pinchinthorpe Visitor Centre, and follows decent tracks and roads to Hutton Village and onward to Highcliff Nab. From Highcliff Nab to route follows the Cleveland Way on Forestry Commission tracks, before dropping down to another Forestry Commission track that takes you to Butt Lane and into Guisborough.
From Guisborough the return is along a railway walkway.
The route was chosen to minimise difficult walking after heavy rainfall.
However, there is one footpath on the route which drops down from the Cleveland Way, which demands particular care in the event of wet weather as this path can be quite slippery.
There is a modest ascent from Hutton Village up to Highcliff Nab.

Some new mapping software is now available which you may want to try, - QUO mapping. You can download the software for free from the link below, complete with demonstration maps. Having installed QUO, you can import and export Memory Map overlays. Thus YOU DON'T NEED Memory Map to use any of the overlays provided on the Grey Panthers web site, - just use QUO!!

Follow the track Eastwards towards Home Farm and Hutton Village.
When you reach the minor road, turn right and continue through Hutton Village>
At the end of the village there is a gated road. Take this road (essentially a Forestry track) using the pedestrian gate.
Continue uphill, and continue past the entrance to the track to Highcliffe Farm, following the track until you are at a junction below Highcliff Nab.
Here turn right and follow the track uphill. This track continues Eastwards as part of the Cleveland Way.
At a point NZ621 144 a footpath is shown on your left (indicated by a waymarker).
This footpath drops fairly steeply downhill to join another Forestry track.
Here turn right and follow the track until you see a track on your left that takes you to Butt Lane.
Follow Butt Lane into Guisborough.
Turn left at the main road, then turn right at the cross-roads and make for the parish church in the centre of Guisborough.
From the church, retrace your steps to the cross-roads.
Cross over into Belmangate, and head up the hill
Continue Southwards until you come to the disused railway bridge, then take the steps on your right up to the railway walkway.
Now follow the walkway Westwards to Hutton Gate.
At Hutton Gate, turn left along the minor road until you come to the footpath which you originally took from Pinchinthorpe to Hutton Village. Turn right and retrace your steps to Pinchinthorpe.
