Outdoor Leisure Maps No OL27, - North York Moors Eastern Area

With fine weather this walk is an absolute treat.
There is delightful riverside scenery, and the walk from the Beggar's Bridge in Glaisdale onwards through East Arncliffe Woods is a highlight.
The route is easy to navigate, apart from one short section where you need to pay attention to both the map and the waymarks.
There is a considerable amount of climbing up slopes and descending, as the walk takes in both side of the Esk Valley.
There are a few stiles, but only one posed any real sort of problem.

Start from the car park by the village school in Lealholm (NY76343 07624).
Walk down the bridge over the River Esk and past the bridge to the Board Inn. On your right, past the inn, is a footpath leading to the stepping stones over the River Esk.
Return from these stones to cross the bridge again. On your right is a farm track leading to Underpark Farm.
Continue on the waymarked / signposted Esk Valley Walk to the ford over the River Esk.
Take the steps before you reach the ford and continue on the road to the hamlet of Thornythwaite.
The Esk Valley Walk continues on your left through the garden of a private house. This footpath is indicated by an Esk Valley Walk finger post.
Continue on the footpath to Glaisdale Mill and inwards to Glaisdale itself.
Now follow the road to Carr End, and Glaisdale Railway Station.
Just past the station, at a bend on the road, is the Beggar's Bridge over the River Esk.
Do not cross the river, but instead take the signposted footpath through East Arncliffe Woods.
You emerge at the road to Egton Bridge. Continue to the village.
Just past the Horse Shoe Hotel a footpath takes you across the River Esk via two sets of stepping stones.
If the river is full, or you don't want to use the stepping stones, continue to the road bridge over the Esk then turn left at the road junction.
Follow the road Westwards to the railway bridge and onwards to Broom House Farm. Just past Broom House, on your left, is a field footpath to Limber Hill Farm.
Initially follow the edge of some woodland, then dip down to cross a small beck by a bridge. Head uphill to a stile at the edge of some woodland. You may find this stile somewhat tricky.
Now continue Eastwards to Limber Hill Farm, and head down the hill on the road.
At the bottom of the hill, take the road on your right and follow it past Egton Banks Farm.
At the top of the hill and a few hundred yards along, take the track to Thornhill Farm.
At the farm, follow waymarks to continue Westwards to Hill Park Farm and Hill House Farm.
From here take the bridleway to Underpark Farm, from where you retrace your steps to Lealholm.
